Use of technology is integrated into the curriculum in all disciplines. Hyla has a computer lab with 16 computer stations as well as 24 Chromebooks for use in the library and classrooms. Use of our school set of 20 iPads is integrated into the math and science curricula across all grades. Students have access to WiFi across campus. Classrooms are equipped with presentation devices and teachers and students incorporate multi-media presentations and lessons in classroom activities.
Student email accounts are provided through Gmail, enabling access to the Google for Education tools. Of these tools, Google Docs and Slides are used in all classrooms for independent and collaborative work and Google Classroom provides online access to homework assignments and class resources.
We strongly believe in teaching ethical and appropriate use of technology while allowing students the freedom and access to explore the tools available across a range of platforms and devices. Concepts such as digital citizenship, Internet security, digital footprint, and smart social media use are incorporated into library and technology lessons for all grade levels. While we support the integration of technology in school curricula and student activities, we do not allow personal cell phone use by students on campus.
